Mozilla releases Firefox 7.

Mozilla have announced that Firefox 7 will be released on September 27th. A Release Candidate is also available although rather confusingly you can't download it directly. You have to download the Beta 6 version and then update Firefox to the latest version to get the Release Candidate.
The big hope for Firefox 7 is that it fixes the memory leak problem that has dogged it for years. In my own tests I couldn't find any major improvements although a few more betas have been released since then that claim to have made some drastic changes to memory use. Firefox 7 also promises faster browsing, improvements to Firefox Sync, increased performance for HTML5 Canvas animation and better CSS3 support.

How to Start Facebook Timeline.

This morning Facebook announced Timeline, a crazy (and kind of creepy) omnibus look at everything that has ever happened in your Facebook lifespan. It’s like a story book of your life — or at least the online, documented parts.

Facebook said that Timeline would be on the way for everyone sometime in the coming weeks… which is great and all, for everyone else. You’re the type of person who reads TechCrunch, and are thus likely the type of person who likes their new and shiny things right now.

That’s okay. We can make it happen.

Fortunately, enabling Timeline a bit early isn’t too difficult — but it’s not at all straight forward, either.

You see, Facebook is enabling Timeline early for open graph developers. You, too, can be an open graph developer — even if you’re just looking to dabble.

A few things to note:

- You probably don’t want to do this unless you’re actually a developer. Expect bugs.

- Only you will see your timeline at first (unless you decide otherwise), but it will automatically go public after a few days. My timeline was automatically hard-set to go public on September 29th.
- It seems that if you login into Facebook on another machine, Timeline gets disabled automatically on all of your machines. With that said, it seems you can get back to your timeline (but ONLY after following the steps below) by navigating to http://www.facebook.com/YOURUSERNAMEHERE?sk=timeline
- You’ll need to have a “verified” account for one of the steps, which means you need a credit card or phone number attached to the account.
Here’s how to do it:

1. Log into Facebook

2. Enable developer mode, if you haven’t already. To do this, type “developer” into the Facebook search box, click the first result (it should be an app made by Facebook with a few hundred thousand users), and add the app.

3. Jump into the developer app (if Facebook doesn’t put you there automatically, it should be in your left-hand tool bar)

4. Create a new app (don’t worry — you wont actually be submitting this for anyone else to see/use). Give your shiny new app any display name and namespace you see fit. Read through and agree to the Platform Privacy agreement. This is the step you need to be verified for.

5. Ensure you’re in your new app’s main settings screen. You should see your app’s name near the top of the page

6. Look for the “Open Graph” header, and click the “Get Started using open graph” link.

Create a test action for your app, like “read” a “book”, or “eat” a “sandwich”

7. This should drop you into an action type configuration page. Change a few of the default settings (I changed the past tense of “read” to “redd” — again, only you can see this unless you try and submit your application to the public directory), and click through all three pages of settings

8. Wait 2-3 minutes

9. Go back to your Facebook homescreen. An invite to try Timeline should be waiting at the top of the page

And you’re done! We’ve seen this work quite a few times now, so it should work without a hitch for just about anyone.http://vipittips.blogspot.com/2011/09/facebook-timeline-announced-new-design.html

Facebook Timeline announced: New design for the social network.

Facebook Timeline, a new profile design, has been announced at the F8 developer conference by founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The new Timeline function acts like a totally redesigned Facebook profile, which Zuckerberg described as a "new way to explain who you are". The new look Facebook acts like a time-based scrolling website, the idea is that the most recent stories and information you have posted is covered in full, but the further you go down, the smaller the stories.

The top of the timeline is taken up by what we presume is a full screen profile picture. To the bottom left is the usual profile information: employer, location, etc. Dates themselves appear down the centre of the Timeline and split it into two separate halves.

"This is exactly how you want to browse through time", said Zuckerberg. Timeline brings better unity and easier navigation to those who have been using Facebook for several years.

Everything is now embedded into the new look profile: apps, video, posts, photos, everything you are used to doing with Facebook.

Filters at the top of the page called Timeline views allow you to select individual content on the website so you can pick and choose specific updates, items, photos, topics or even locations, using a map.

Applications are now also handled differently using the Open graph app infrastructure. They can be incorporated directly into the Timeline, being featured in a box at the top of the Timeline showing everything you have done with an app.

The redesign is a major change for Facebook, who have adopted predominantly the same profile design and website look since 2008. Facebook Timeline will be rolling out progressively over the next few months.

UPDATE: The Timeline beta period begins now for developers. Music, movies, TV and news will also go live now. For those who want to know more about Timeline, Facebook has made an introductory video which is now live on its website.

Users can ask to be added to the Timeline via Facebook and will find it goes live as it is rolled out globally, or you can head over and explore a bit for yourself on the Introducing Timeline page.

Google has officially launched 'Wallet',the first pay by phone service.

Google has officially launched 'Wallet', the first pay by phone service.

Ahead of other companies, Google Wallet launched first on the Samsung Nexus S on the Sprint Nextel network. Also partnered in the initial scheme are Citibank and Mastercard.

As other Android phones are fitted with the NFC (near field communication) technology, more like services will appear on the market.

Google also said today that it has licensed NFC technology from other major credit card companies: American Express, Visa, and Discover. This means that upcoming versions of Google Wallet will support those credit cards as well.

"In the future, our goal is to make it possible for you to add all of your payment cards to Google Wallet, so you can say goodbye to even the biggest traditional wallets," said Osama Bedier, vice president of payments at Google.

Twitter launches TweetUp Search Engine.

TweetUp Inc. will filter tweets with a combination of bids paid by Twitter users who want to get noticed along with other factors such as expertise.

The latest venture to come from Idealab, the new startup is launched by veteran technology entrepreneur Bill Gross and it is expected to make money from Twitter's unbridled stream of 600 tweets per second.
Gross stated: "We are building a better search engine for tweets and tweeters."

The developer scheduled the launch so it would be just in time to capture interest from attendees of Twitter's first-ever developer conference, called Chirp, in San Francisco, with an expected attendance of 800 the first day and over 1200 the next day.

TweetUp.com is expected to repeat the success of the lab’s first project, Goto.com, which introduced the concept of paid Internet searches and became a key business model for companies like Yahoo Inc. and Google.

According to Gross the idea behind TweetUp is that Twitter members who want to get their messages noticed can bid on keywords that will help distinguish their tweets from the rest. "Anyone who wants to build a bigger following who is an expert at some subject, whether it's baseball, whether it's tsunamis, whether it's the iPad, this is going to allow them to find their audience extremely cost-effectively," he said.

TweetUp offers a 50-50 revenue split to Web sites that incorporate the TweetUp search, which will include BusinessInsider.com, Answers.com and PopURLs.

Hide Internet Browser in Windows.

Ever been on PC where Internet Explorer was blocked?

One solution would be to use a portable version of Firefox on a USB drive, or you can access a hidden browser in Microsoft HTML Help program if removable media is not an option. This was tested on Windows XP SP2 with Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7.

Open calculator. You can do this quickly with Windows button+R on your keyboard, type calc in the run box, click OK.

In Microsoft Calculator go to Help -> Help Topics.

Now right click on the left hand side of the title bar and click on Jump To URL...

Type in the URL including the ‘

Code: http://’ and off you go. Repeat to visit other sites.

Essentially this is Internet Explorer embedded inside of the HTML Help application. Adobe Flash isn’t working in my hidden browser, but a quick visit to Adobe took care of it.

YouTube adds a built in video editor.

In an effort to make it easier for YouTube users to make changes to their videos after uploading them, YouTube is rolling out a brand new video editor.

No, this isn't the standalone video editor meant for splicing together clips from multiple videos that's been available in the service's TestTube labs since last year. Instead, it's a new one designed to give users a way to do quick fixes without having to re-upload the video. It's like a retouching tool for photos, but for non-commercial video.

The idea for including an editor came out of eyeballing videos that had been uploaded to the service, YouTube product manager Jason Toff told CNET.

"We noticed a lot of the videos that were uploaded to YouTube could use some polish, some basic video editing," Toff said. "We noticed a lot of videos that had extra footage at the beginning that could have been trimmed off, or some footage at the end that could be trimmed off, a lot of videos that were really shaky and could use stabilization, and dark videos, etc."

Microsoft Windows 8 Preview .

Microsoft has finally demonstrated the detailed preview of the next major release of Windows, code-named Windows 8 at BUILD, for developers. The preview revealed some of the ways in which Microsoft “reimagined” the interface for a new generation of touch-centric hardware.

It is reported that the new Windows makes use of the tile-based Metro user interface found in Windows Phone 7. This makes it apt for use on tablets where the touch-interface will allow easy navigation between tiles.

Microsoft has claimed that Windows 8 will be equally suitable for both tablets and desktops. The software giant believes this will narrow the gap between tablets and traditional PCs and allow users to enjoy best of both worlds.

At BUILD, the company showed that desktop users will be able to access the traditional homescreen and work on programs the way they do under Windows 7.Microsoft also illustrated new tools for developers to help develop applications for the new OS. Windows 8 will also comprise a new app store when it arrives in the market next year.

In addition, Microsoft is also ensuring a flawless cloud experience that will keep Windows 8 devices synced.

Adding more flavor to the new platform, for the first time in the history of Windows, the new version will not only integrate x86 processors made by Intel and AMD but also ARM architecture.

Microsoft Buys 3D Chip Maker.

Microsoft has reached a deal for the acquisition of Canesta, a 3D chip maker based in Sunnyvale, Calif., for an undisclosed amount.

Canesta provides Microsoft with its 44 patents relating to 3D motion-capturing technology and has many more patents on its way. Coupled with last year's acquisition of 3DV, a similar motion chip manufacturer, Microsoft may have some big plans for integration of the fairly new technology in a wide array of future products.

How will be the new iPhone 5 | All that said on Web.

It is difficult to make an informative article in which to answer the question many of you have: Do you really know something about iPhone 5? Rumors are and will be until it hits the market, but for now, Apple does not lose and continue innovation.

If you want to know what all being said and written on web about new Apple Device- iPhone 5, the rumors are more probable and more absurd, I discovered.

Most Crazy things said about iPhone 5.

Apple fanboys are responsible for spreading dozens of rumors and comments which are again highly improbable. Arrival of an Apple device technology becomes a science fiction scenario. Unless the new iPhone 5 contain a time machine and a neutralizer of protons, has said it all:

Famous iPhone 5 video-projector: iPhone 5 will have a projector to watch videos in HD anywhere, and it will project a touch pad to write with in the most comfortable. Are you sure? This video of afictional iPhone 5 has been around the world, with over 10 million hits in just a few days.

Patterns and designs: Some say that the new iPhone 5 physical keyboard will come, others will be almost all screen and ultra-fine, others recover aesthetics of other generations of iPods … There is something for everyone.

iPhones for all: It has been said many times that Apple plans to release several models of iPhone5 (or 4G or 4Gs), a luxury, cheaper model and limited one.

When will iPhone 5 release?

It’s the big question. Apple had used its customers to release a new iPhone every year. That is, present in June and released in July. But rumors have always pointed to this new phone from Apple would see the light beyond the summer. First it was September, then in early October, and now the rumor gained strength which goes on sale in the third week of October.

How to find out? It seems that Apple is training its employees about the benefits of IOS 5 and the online stores are beginning to prepare the ground for new mobile of Cupertino.

The idea of an official product presentation in late September is more than likely, in what will be the first major conference of Apple without Steve Jobs, the first with Tim Cook.

Bottomline:

iPhone 5 may become a turning point for Apple. Too much conservatism can lead to business failure and loss of prestige, so expect more news of which are rumored. A large battery autonomy, a xenon flash, LED display, standard connections such as HDMI and USB micro … Things you should have and probably will not.

What improvements should include iPhone 5? What rumors have you heard about Apple’s new phone?

How 2 Repair a Broken TCP/IP Connection .

Get back onto the Internet fast if you have TCP/IP woes. TCP/IP problems can be exceedingly difficult to troubleshoot, and at times your TCP/IP connection appears to break for no apparent reason. Everything looks like it should be working, but you're not able to connect using the protocols.

If you have a broken connection, try the following:

Try automated repair
Right-click the broken connection in the Network Connections folder and choose Repair.

Run the Network Setup Wizard

It walks you step by step through TCP/IP and network configuration and will correct any errors you might have introduced inadvertently.

Reset your router

If you have a home network, the problem might lie with the router or in the connection between the router and your broadband provider. Follow the directions for resetting the router.

Reset your cable modem or DSL modem

If you have a broadband connection, the problem might lie in the assignment of your IP address by your ISP. Power off your cable modem or DSL modem, unplug its Ethernet cable, and leave it powered off for five minutes. Then restart it. This is also a good time to reset your router. You can also try releasing and renewing after you've turned the connection back on.

Reset TCP/IP to its original configuration

If all else fails, you can try to reset your TCP/IP stack to the same state that it was in when XP was first installed on the computer. Use the NetShell utility.

Issue this command: netsh int ip reset [log_file_name], where log_file_name is the name of a file where the actions taken by NetShell will be recorded.

Get a new Ethernet cable
Your old cable might be nicked, the connector might be loose, or mice might have nibbled on it.

Sony to release 3D Headset.

Sony’s latest entertainment device looks like it was lifted from a sci-fi movie.

On Wednesday, the company unveiled HMZ-T1, a “personal viewer” that allows individuals to watch 3D or 2D videos, play games and listen to music using a personal headset that weighs about three times as much as an iPhone.

Sony first introduced the concept at CES, but it did not indicate a timetable for its release. The company has now announced plans to release the first versions in Japan on November 11 with a price tag of 60,000 yen (about $780).

Sony says that wearing the headset — which has a processing unit that plugs into a Blu-ray disc player or game machine — is like viewing a 750-inch movie screen. It also says the device’s speaker system makes “it seem as though the sound source is emanating from speakers placed all around the viewer (including front and back).”

That sounds like a great experience, but is it enough to convince you to wear one?
