Set Priority Inbox to Play Nice with Your Filters.

are still on the fence about Gmail's new Priority Inbox feature. One potential hurdle to its success: By default, Priority Inbox ignores anything your filters pull out of your inbox.

To give Priority Inbox a shot at determining the importance of all your email-and possibly outdo your carefully crafted filters—just go to your Priority Inbox Settings (that link should work if you're using regular old Gmail) and switch the Filtered Mail section to Override filters. It's a simple tweak, but it could make a big difference in how well Priority Inbox is able to analyze your inbox.

You also now have two new filtering actions that can either "Always mark it as important" or "Never mark it as important". In theory Priority Inbox could learn which emails those are by itself, but if you're not comfortable leaving it entirely to Google, it's a nice option to have.

While you're giving Priority Inbox the old college try, make sure you add the new keyboard shortcuts to your repertoire.
