Configure Default Numlock Mode.

Quick Overview:

The Numlock key on most standard keyboards toggles the numeric keypad between two different modes: (1) The Numeric Mode and (2) The Function Mode.

When the Numlock is turned "ON", the numeric keys on the keypad generate numbers, from 0 to 9. On the other hand, when Numlock is set to "OFF", these numeric keys generate other keystroke events such as "Home", "Page Up", "Page Down", etc...

Many versions of Windows by default, set Numlock key to "OFF", and this turns to be a bit annoying if you use that keypad regularly for numeric purposes. The good news is, you can always change this default behavior and set the Numlock key ON as default.

IMPORTANT This article will guide to some steps of modifying your Windows Registry. Stop if you're not familiar with the Windows Registry. Making an inappropriate change to the Windows Registry could cause critical problems to your computer.

Proceed at your own risks

1.Open the "Registry Editor" ("Start" >> "Run", then type "regedit" and Enter).
   Expand to the following key:
2.HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard
Here you should see a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators"
3.Double-click on this name to popup the edit window
4.Enter a desired numeric value under "Value Data" then click "Ok". Valid values are:

0: Numlock is OFF on startup
   1: Disable Numlock Key
2: Numlock is ON on startup

What do I need to create HTML ?

You don't need any special equipment or software to create HTML. In fact, you probably already have everything you need. Here is what you need:

Computer

Text or HTML Editor : Most computers already have a text editor and you can easily create HTML files using a text editor. Having said that, there are definite benefits to be gained in downloading an HTML editor.

If you want the best HTML editor, and you don't mind paying money for it, you can't go past Adobe Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver is probably the best HTML editor available, and you can download a trial version for starters.

If you don't have the cash to purchase an editor, you can always download a free one. Examples include SeaMonkey, Coffee Cup (Windows) and TextPad (Windows).

If you don't have an HTML editor, and you don't want to download one just now, a text editor is fine. Most computers already have a text editor. Examples of text editors include Notepad (for Windows), Pico (for Linux), or Simpletext/Text Edit/Text Wrangler (Mac).

Web Browser : For example, Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Do I need to be online ?

No, you do not need to be online to create web pages. You can create web pages on your local machine. You only need to go online when you want to publish your web page to the web - this bit comes later.

Flash vs Animated GIF.

An animated GIF is actually many images saved in one.

When the animated GIF is loaded onto a webpage, the browser simply loops the images. This means, if you make an animation of a clown that moves his hand up and down in 25 small movements, then the animated area of the image is saved 25 times. So it doesn't take a lot of animation to create a GIF image that's remarkable bigger than a regular clown image.

Therefore, even small animations take forever to load.

While animated GIFs can be used for animations, they do not support interactivity. They simply loop images in a predefined order and that's it.

In Flash, you can control the animations. For example, you can make the animation stop and wait for the user to click a button. And when the animation starts again it can be dependant on which button was clicked.

A final obvious difference is that GIF images are limited to a 256 color palette.

So compared to animated GIFs, the advantages of Flash are that:

Flash movies load much faster.

Flash movies allow interactivity.

Flash movies can use more than 256 colors.
