Mac OS X Lion launches.

On its quarterly earnings conference call this evening, Apple confirmed Mac OS X Lion will launch tomorrow, 20 July. This is the first major release since OS X Snow Leopard, which launched in 2009, and was considered more of a "refined" version of the previous Mac OS, Leopard. Before now, Apple had only said Lion would launch in July, although the rumour mill has been pointing to availability this week for a few days.

The new version of Apple's Mac operating system will be available via the Mac App Store only -- you won't be able to walk into a store and buy a copy on DVD as with previous releases. Instead, you'll need to download the 4GB installation over the internet.
